HUNGER

Parched was his throat,he sensed his stomach growling in a strange manner , the sound of which was drowned in the pandemonium of the crowd erupting with joy.
His feet started to tremble, the sun too strong on his slender body which barely witnessed ten summers.
He didn't want to, couldn't do this anymore, walking on this thin rope high up in the air.
He pleaded with his eyes, but the glare from his master busy counting coins from his wornout bag, silenced his resentment.
One more step and he felt light, his body floating through the air, one last thud, and he smiled, his sorrows over for a lifetime.

MIRAGE

She caressed the black velvet box sheltering her precious pearl set ,reliving those moments when he first clasped it ,his fingers ever so lightly dancing on her neck.

How she wished she knew he had so little time left, dreams for a lifetime snatched away in a moment, the wheel of time refusing to turn back.

She wished she could erase the times they fought, egos screeching making their unwanted presence known, days spent pining away for each other drowned in seas of sorrow.

She wished she woke up next to him ,nuzzling him , his voice whispering into her ear, sending tingles down her spine.

She wished he was right there to lock her in his strong arms , kiss away her tears and hear him say "I'm back, love".

A MARRIAGE FOR A LIFETIME

He often saw his life's journey reflecting in her eyes, afterall
they stayed blissfully married since sixty years.

Their lives were so entwined that we cannot tell apart one from the other, the beauty of love it surely is.

But one day he woke up to her lifeless body, serene, content as if she wrapped up all her beautiful memories to step into another world.

He maintained poise throughout her funeral and kissed his wife goodbye with a smile without any hint of tears, some feared if he was on the verge of losing his sanity.

The next day he woke up to a wintry morning, he was ready with two steaming mugs of coffee and settled down in one of the cane chairs, only to find the other one empty.

TO BE OR NOT TO BE

They say I'm old
I need not be told;
that life is all about compromises,
It seldom surrenders to promises.

I try to contemplate...
Why is it not us who detour our fate?
To be or not to be,
To say or not to say,
To do or not to do..

They say, everything comes with a price,
You got to win the game being nice.
I ask, what about love and sacrifice?
They smirk, "oh! you need to think twice,
they are one of the many vices...."

I begin to believe these pale, warm creatures.
They fascinate me,these beseechers.

Their minds tangled in a million wires,
Their bodies vouching never to tire,
Their fingers dancing to the luminous screens,
Their marathon run to the undying routine.

I'm drawn to them,
to become one of them.
My body being entrapped,
My soul and existence sapped.

Lost for eternity in this mayhem,
It's too late to blame them..

THE MASK

When was the last time you smiled?
I stay frozen thinking for a while..

You have donned the mask
Alas! It is an uphill task

You warmly welcomed the shutterbugs
Deep inside wary of the heart tugs

Shying away from emotions
You refuse to pledge your devotion

You pretend ignorance and innocence
But what you thrive on is reminiscence

Dare you run to the worst
You got to live again and trust

Life's woes aren't too much to cope
It's time you discovered a miracle called hope

STARTLED

She was excited to return home after six months, her company finally made it big.she longed to rush into her fiancés arms and make up for the lost time. she hugged him tightly only to find his arms firmly by his sides.he began awkwardly,"I'm  kind of seeing ... someone".after what seemed like an eternity, he told with certainty""Its over".her thoughts went back to the day when she received a lukewarm response from him on deciding to go ahead with her work and postpone the wedding.she wished she knew  then what she knew now.it was too late.

He is about to leave the town on the lookout for a job.
Tears brimming in her eyes, she goes to meet him one last time.
He cuddles her and says," don't get all mushy, afterall it was just a fling".
Moving away from his embrace, she slowly mumbles,"I thought it was love".

PUZZLED BY PASSWORDS

My first password? That  forces me  to time travel six years backwards.those were the days, when I was beaming with pride of finally getting into a medical college.but my intelligence only helped me crack a med entrance, my knowledge of the web was lurking between negative and zero.I had no intention of surfing partly because the mobile I carried was  the so called dabba mobile which I bought for fear of a costlier one being stolen in my initial hostel days.then came second year, orkut was such a rage then, but being the bookworm that I was these social platforms couldn't waver my attention the least.but I had this friend who believed in living king size and was fascinated with all the latest gadgets, she was  a social bee.my competitive instincts took over me, I decided its high time I have a mail.I considered myself a pro at english and thought mailing is a  nice thing to start with.I had to set my pride  aside and ask for help.I remember how awkward it was with me typing the user name with my right index finger bearing the brunt of the force of my thoughts. When you are not  a pro at typing fast , all you can do is type each letter looking at the keyboard as  if your  whole life depends on it.My friend was giving me a wicked smile, her eyes questioning how longer do you need.before I sought for my friend's help I was seriously contemplating what my password needs to be.a dozen thoughts were running through my brain.maybe my birthday, no that would be too easy, mine or my parent's names, that is boring, maybe a strange code of numbers, a nice quote, or a character which I liked from the umpteen number of books I  read.but what finally got the better of me was a crush I liked at college, I weaved a password out of our names, and I absolutely loved it.I was satisfied with my creation. It was easy to pronounce, remember and it was only mine for keeps.I still remember my fingers shaking  while typing the password.no, not due to the excitement but I was thoroughly worried that she might realise what my password was, courtesy my poor speed.it was finally a relief, sigh.so , that was my first password story.according to me, a little adventure.ironically, in later days, I began  to have a love hate feeling for that crush.yet I retained my password. I now hold  a few mail ids , you can see me on social platforms, but my first password still gets the royalty of securing one  of them.first love never dies.

A RAY OF HOPE

Striving to write in the dark, a flurry of thoughts and a sea of emotions fail to hold  base.maybe its time to let my thoughts escape the hard cranium of my head.its been ages since I let out  my butterfly wings do their dazzling dance in the air.its been a while , when have I  last adsorbed the soft sun rays glistening on my neck?when have i last smelled the dewdrops to eternity?when have i last dreamt of the blue river? I have lost count of the number of days spent trying to create the so called secure me.the rat race eventually wears everyone out.the run to fame , money is exhilarating and tedious.blessed are those who still make time, time that is irreplaceable, time with dear ones, time to bask in the morning sunshine, time to wake up your loved one with a kiss, time to breathe in the fresh air of the morning blended with the aroma of strong coffee, to be able to greet your colleagues with a wholehearted smile, not a frown, time to text a message to the one who waits at home, time to appreciate the good deeds of others, time to dance in the rain, time to scream your lungs out, time to finish your handpicked novel in a week, time to capture the twinkle in your kid's eyes, time to sleep peacefully entwined in each other's arms before the wicked alarm makes its presence known.make time, theres always time, its only a matter of what falls first in your priority.its time to let birthdays at 60 be the same as 16, its time to let saturday weekends be all the fun they promised to be.its time to stop fearing what others think and let your heart rule the roost.its time to free that little mischievous thing in you, let your hair loose and the world is all yours.let your heart rule your mind, follow the path and you are in for a revelation.maybe my thoughts are a little too far stretched in today's world, yet definitely not utopian.its time to let happiness take over other things.its time we stopped dancing to the whims of the world. Life is  not a line moving on ifs and buts.Life is not a mirage.dwell deeper into it in pursuit of happiness and there lies the oasis which always escaped your eyes.

MY MOM DEAREST

She gave me her flesh and blood infused with hopes and dreams for me.
She toiled away day and night to nurture the growing me.
She wept away tears of joy when she finally saw the doctor she envisioned in me.
She hid away her unsung stories in the creases of her palm.
Wherever I go, the dream run continues, if not for my dear  Mom!

BLISS

She gives me an alluring smile
The wide gap in her teeth betraying my eyes

She caresses me with those silken hands
Those delicate creases giving away her untold woes

She  kisses me as lightly as she can
for she fears bruising  my cheek

She  ruffles my unkempt hair
making me only want more

She cuddles upto me and hugs me
The warmth of her soothing me

She is there for me anytime never giving a miss
All she wanted for me was life abundant  in bliss

Wish I stay cocooned in this web of love forever
As i owe this life to you, my dear mother...

WILTED

Pulling together the strings of my thoughts
Can't undo the twisted knots

Memories too strong to fade away
can't help the dreams withering away

Moving on is what I fear
When everything else is so unclear

You left me on a lonely path
Frozen I am to face the wreck and wrath

Your silence kills what is left of me
Refusing to remember the happy we

To erase you is what I can't fathom
Without you my life hits rock bottom

my happiness was what you counted on
But it is you my world thrives on...

WAITING FOR YOU

Walking into my life without even a sign
You rode my heart, saying"your mine"

Your presence made the world shine
You never complained when I whined

That warm hug caressed my frenzied heart
That tender kiss assured you will never depart

You own those endless days
When everything else was a blurry haze

Sinking in that lovely gaze
Life without is a treacherous maze

Cherished are those countless nights
Banished are those thoughtless fights

Vanished is the love which beheld  me to you
Famished is the soul which craves for you

I never knew when you were gone
Your silhouette still pricks me like a thorn

Waiting for you in the lonely dawn
My lips whisper a prayer for the little "you" to be born...

NOSTALGIA

Do you remember that moment when you had to write down in the slam book who your best friend was?which friend gets to have the first piece of cake? That awkward pause where you have to prioritize your handful of friends.you know there is this one friend whom you love a little more than the others, you can't help beaming when you write their name, you feel empowered, you cherish their friendship , and thats when you go down the nostalgic lane..
Friends come in all shapes and sizes, with a hundred different wavelengths, being friends in childhood is like first love, sweet and cute,
they mean the world to you, you usually don't hold grudges, you forgive so quickly, trust me atleast one of them will cling to you for a lifetime.you  all sob when you leave , some come along ,some fade away, thats how life works right? now comes the prime of youth in all its glory, the rebellion of guys, the rosy dreams of girls, this period is when you become the unofficial knight in shining armor.you vouch so fiercely for your friends, to be there till death do you guys apart.commendable.alas! the fantasy land comes crumbling, differences start cropping up,you wish your friend understood you a little  better, you hope you shared  a few more things in common, you want to blurt out what you feel but you simply cant.you fear ruining your friendship.it gets awkward.you start reminiscing the bygone memories of happier times, times with friends from childhood.but you can't help pining away for your current friends.life is tough, isn't it? And now comes the time to prioritize, whether your pride or your friend  is worth dumping, I don't blame either decision, because no one can stand in your shoes.just make sure you don't look back and regret it.for the record, I haven't.life is fun with friends but do be geared  up for a few unforgettable, unbelievable lessons you are going to learn the hard way, your childhood friends will always hold an irreplaceable position in your heart, you may be drifting apart, you may not pour open your heart, but thinking of them warms your heart.your friends from college will stay with you, no matter what, but just make sure you give your best shot at valuing their friendship.the rest is upto them. every one should have that 4 am friend, a friend in front of whom you can cry unabashedly and howl .this is how life works. with friends, egos, grudges, silences keep popping up, its about how you can handle the storm.so , give a high five, laugh till tears well up, confront when you want to, and a few times just let it be.friendships too are meant to be for a lifetime.till then adios amigos..

HUES AND DREAMS

The many different hues of life,
stirring up a myriad of emotions
some soothening, some dampening
some pampering, some hampering
some killing, yet some fulfilling
each lending its own fragrance
none belittling  the other
embrace them with open hands,
after all life offers the best possible
 in its beloved garden

AWAITING A MIRACLE

we all dream of that  one miracle which will make our life, which will bring everything we ever wanted with all our hearts.but is it worth having such lofty dreams? yes ,trying to turn into reality what was fathomed by others as highly impossible is what gives the ultimate adrenaline rush.what we fail to realise is that the miracle lies within us , we fail to discover ourselves and falter time and again, we daydream reminiscing the bygone days and  wishing life was always the cakewalk it used to be.we don't live in a utopian world, rather we live building up our own little world bit by bit , so may be we should rediscover the zeal within us , start appreciating the beauty of sunshine once again, wake up to a new morning , cherish those old memories, revive those old dusted books, be thrilled at those little victories, smile widely, walk with our head held high , in no time we realise how silly our fears and disappointments have been, when all the while the miracle has been lying right there in our palms.it just takes a bit of self realisation to know your worth it and not let it slip away...
